Summer trip around the Baltic Sea – registration started!

This year’s summer trip has one goal: We’re going to the Baltic See! And then around.

Travel period: 16th August to 7th September 2025

Info night: 17th June

We start on 16 August: due to construction work by InfraGO, we first cover one stage in Germany. We will travel to Lübeck and from there along the coast to the island of Usedom, then on to Szczecin. From Szczecin, the journey continues to Gdansk, from where we also want to take a trip to the Hel Peninsula. We bypass Kaliningrad via Suwałki and head straight for our destination in Lithuania, the coastal town of Klaipeda. Our next stop in the Baltic states is the Latvian capital Riga, from where we also want to visit the country’s second largest city, Daugavpils, with its interesting trams. Tallinn is the final stop on our Baltic tour. As we cannot continue along the coast, we cross over to Finland by ferry. Helsinki marks the end of the ‘cultural programme’. From here on, the schedule is a little tighter: the focus is on completing the circumnavigation of the Baltic Sea. This means: overnight train to Tornio, an overnight stay in Boden or Luleå, almost at the Arctic Circle. From there, the journey heads south again. We travel via Stockholm and Malmö to Denmark, where we make a stopover at the Danish Railway Museum in Odense. Back in Germany, we cross the Schlei bridge by rail replacement on foot and return to Dresden via Kiel and our starting point in Lübeck, where we arrive on 7 September.

It takes 23 days to circumnavigate the Baltic Sea. If this is too long for you, we offer to join for part of the journey. 15 days are planned for the section from Szczecin to Helsinki.

This year we want to travel with Interrail tickets. This will give us a certain degree of flexibility and a considerable cost advantage, especially on the Scandinavian section. This means that the organisation team will take care of accommodation and reservations and all fellow travellers will buy their own Interrail tickets. 14 travel days are required for the entire trip (including excursions), and 7 travel days for the short trip. If you would like to make further trips during the semester break in addition to the summer trip, you can of course also purchase Interrail tickets with a longer duration. For those who have never travelled with Interrail before, we will of course teach you everything you need to know. We will also be happy to advise you on how to buy Interrail tickets at the information evening.

Now about the money – the price of the Verkehrte Welt trip includes all overnight stays and reservations for the Interrail ticket as well as the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki. All participants must purchase an Interrail ticket. The exact price depends on the size of the group and the time of booking. Any overpayments will of course be refunded.
