Your first few weeks in Dresden are behind you, and you are ready to see something new? Or would you simply like to enjoy a good serving of Svíčková again? Then it’s high time! Hop on board and travel with Verkehrte Welt. All students who love to travel are invited, especially first-year students.
In our usual format, we want to collect insights into companies in the transport sector that are opening their doors to us. Our first stage takes us to Chemnitz. There, City-Bahn operates regional trams that connect the downtown network with the regional rail lines in the countryside to form a continuous tram-train system. First, we visit the main station and the Adelsberg depot. From there, we continue via City-Bahn infrastructure to Stollberg, where a tour of the staging yard and signal box is on the agenda.
In the late afternoon, we cross the Ore Mountains ridge on our way to the Bohemian Spa Triangle. Our accommodation is located in the spa town of Marienbad (Mariánské Lázně), which is known for its mineral springs and colonnades. On Saturday, we visit the operator of the local trolleybuses, who will show us the depot and the substation that supplies power. A bus will be waiting to take us to the stops on the tour and then on a city tour. Of course, there will also be time in Marienbad for sightseeing and Bohemian specialties. On Sunday, we will head back through the Czech Republic toward the Elbe Valley. Don’t forget to stock up on the traditional wafers as souvenirs!
